Overview

Assassin's Creed was built around an idea that allows the series to constantly change its setting: letting players travel through different historical periods while continuing the conflict between Assassins and Templars.

The Italian Renaissance, the Caribbean, the American Revolution, Paris during the French Revolution, Victorian England, ancient Egypt, Greece, the Viking world and Japan become far more than simple backdrops. Each era changes the cities to explore, the ways characters move through them, the combat systems and, gradually, the very structure of the games.

Taken together, these entries show how the series has evolved over time: from the early games strongly focused on urban stealth to the vast open worlds of more recent installments, with many transformations of the formula in between.
