Overview

Resident Evil never remained locked into the formula that first made it famous. Slow exploration, limited resources and labyrinthine environments defined its early identity, but the series quickly began experimenting with different pacing, perspectives and ways of putting the player under pressure.

Some entries gradually pushed much further toward action, while others explored parallel directions through Code: Veronica, Revelations, Survivor and Resistance. Later, the move to a first-person perspective once again changed the way horror and the vulnerability of the protagonist were experienced.

Viewed together, these games reveal above all a series that has continually tested how far it could transform its identity without completely abandoning survival, biological creatures and hostile environments at the heart of its legacy.
