Caesar wants to wage war and ask the Senate for money, but it is out of the question of conquering anything as long as the village of the Gauls is not Roman. To do this, Caesar decides to send to Gaul a sower of trouble, ex-prisoner, from the name of Tullius Detritus. Arriving in Gaul he intends to offer a vase to the most important person in the village. It should be Chief Abraracourcix, but the lucky one is Asterix. This gesture will bring zizania into the village of Gaul. Everyone will be wary of everyone and by a trick the Romans will make the Gauls believe that they hold the magic potion. Only Asterix and Panoramix suspect themselves of the superchery and leave the village with Obelix to let their companions, all alone, without magic potion...

Gracchus Garovirus is governor of Condate; it is a Roman, fried with orgies. Arrive the quaestor (collector of taxes) Claudius Malosinus. Gracchus, very ravenous, gives only 3 pieces of gold to the quaestor. The latter, wanting to eat, is brought a broth of vegetables where Gracchus has discreetly poured poison. After seeing in vain several Roman doctors, Claudius wants to call on Panoramix. This last diagnosis a poisoning that can only be cured with a potion containing edelweiss. Following an argument and a stupid bet between Abraracourcix and his brother-in-law, Asterix and Obelix went to Rome: their mission was to bring back the crown of Caesar's laurels so that it could perfume the stew that Abraracourcix had to offer to his brother-in-law.
