In the southern deserts of Troy, Tykko lives with his mother in the oasis of Mubarre, a region where magic has mysteriously become extremely weak. Working in a caravanserai, he dreams of escaping his difficult life by winning the great annual Kamle race. But the appearance of the mysterious Ayasha and the return of secrets connected to his past completely change his plans. Seeking to understand his origins, Tykko begins a journey across the desert that brings him into contact with tribes, forgotten cities, and forces connected to the disappearance of magic in this part of Troy.
