The Clash was a British punk rock band formed in London in the mid-1970s around Joe Strummer, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon and Topper Headon. Their music quickly moved beyond punk by incorporating reggae, ska, dub, rockabilly, funk and rock, while their lyrics addressed politics, social inequality, racism and urban tensions. With albums such as The Clash, London Calling and Sandinista!, the band became one of the most influential and ambitious groups in punk history.
