Ken Kaneki is a quiet college student whose life changes completely after an encounter leaves him critically injured. Saved through an organ transplant, he wakes up to discover that he has become half-ghoul, a creature that must feed on human flesh to survive. Unable to return to a normal life, Kaneki is gradually introduced to the hidden world of ghouls and learns to exist between two societies that fear and fight each other. As he tries to preserve his humanity, he is drawn into violent confrontations and conflicts that challenge everything he believed about both humans and ghouls.
