Overview

Presentation

Street Fighter 6 is a fighting game developed and published by Capcom. The sixth main installment in the series renews its formula by combining traditional one-on-one battles with a single-player adventure featuring character creation and an online community space. Its visual identity blends martial arts, urban culture, graffiti and hip-hop influences.

The game revolves around three main modes: World Tour, Fighting Ground and Battle Hub. Each offers a different way to experience the Street Fighter universe, from gradually learning fighting techniques to competing against other players.

World Tour is a single-player adventure mode incorporating role-playing elements. Players create their own fighter and begin training in Metro City, notably under Luke Sullivan. Their journey leads them to meet different masters, travel to other destinations such as Nayshall, and explore what it truly means to become stronger. Exploration involves completing missions, participating in battles and developing the avatar's abilities.

Progression in World Tour is based particularly on fighting styles and techniques learned from iconic Street Fighter characters. By becoming their student, players can unlock special moves, improve their attributes and customize their approach to combat. This mode introduces Street Fighter's mechanics through an adventure structured around learning and encounters.

Fighting Ground brings together the traditional fighting modes: Arcade, Versus, Training and online battles. The game retains its 2D fighting system, built around movement, spacing, combinations and special moves. Each character has a distinctive style, ranging from Ryu's karate and Chun-Li's kung fu to wrestling, boxing and various martial arts disciplines.

The main gameplay innovation is the Drive System, represented by a gauge shared between offensive and defensive options. It notably allows players to use Drive Impact to absorb certain attacks and retaliate, Drive Parry to defend themselves, or Drive Rush to accelerate offensive movement. Excessive use of this resource causes Burnout, temporarily limiting the fighter's options. Managing the Drive Gauge therefore becomes an essential part of combat.

To accommodate different types of players, Street Fighter 6 offers three control types. Classic Controls retain the series' traditional six-button layout, while Modern Controls simplify the execution of certain techniques. Dynamic Controls, restricted to selected offline matches, automatically adapt actions to the situation. These options allow players to explore the combat system while preserving its technical depth.

Finally, Battle Hub functions as a virtual arcade. Players gather there with their avatars to chat, participate in battles, access arcade cabinets and discover various community activities. Avatar Battles also allow players to use the techniques acquired in World Tour.

Since launch, Street Fighter 6 has received regular updates introducing new fighters, stages, costumes and balance adjustments. Its initial roster of 18 characters has gradually expanded with returning legends, newcomers and guest fighters from other franchises.

Good to know

Street Fighter 6 is developed and published by Capcom.

The game was released on June 2, 2023, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

A Nintendo Switch 2 version was released on June 5, 2025, accompanied by activities adapted to the console, including local wireless battles and modes using the Joy-Con controllers.

The game uses the RE Engine, also employed in several recent Capcom productions.

The initial roster includes 18 fighters, among them Ryu, Chun-Li, Ken, Guile, Cammy, Juri, Luke, Jamie, Kimberly, Manon and JP.

The Drive System uses a gauge that enables five techniques: Drive Impact, Drive Parry, Drive Rush, Drive Reversal and Overdrive Arts. When the gauge is depleted, the fighter enters Burnout until it recovers.

Classic and Modern Controls are available in the main game modes. Dynamic Controls are restricted to selected offline activities and cannot be used in online competitions.

In World Tour, players customize their avatar, improve their attributes and learn techniques from different masters. These abilities can then be used in Avatar Battles within Battle Hub.

Online battles benefit from rollback netcode, designed to reduce the effects of latency, as well as cross-play between compatible platforms.

Competition plays an important role in the game's ecosystem, particularly through the Capcom Pro Tour, Street Fighter League and Capcom Cup, which bring together professional players from around the world.

The Street Fighter 6 Years 1-2 Fighters Edition, released on June 5, 2025, includes the base game and the eight additional fighters from the first two years, bringing the roster to 26 characters, along with extra stages and customization items.

Content from the first two years notably includes Akuma, M. Bison, Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui, with the latter two originating from SNK's Fatal Fury universe.

The third year introduced Sagat, C. Viper, Alex and Ingrid. As of October 2026, the fourth year is underway, featuring Yasmine and Arjun, with the latter joining the game on October 13, 2026. Tifa Lockhart, from Final Fantasy VII, and Bosch, a character from World Tour, have been announced for 2027.

Additional fighters can be purchased individually or through Character Passes and Ultimate Passes. Certain costumes and cosmetic items are also available as in-game purchases.

Street Fighter 6 includes offline game modes, notably World Tour and local Fighting Ground matches. Battle Hub, online multiplayer and community features require an Internet connection and a Capcom ID account.
