Synopsis

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7

In 2035, ten years after the confrontation between David Mason and Raul Menendez, a video resurfaces showing Menendez announcing new attacks. David and his unit, Specter One, are sent to Avalon, a Mediterranean city-state, to investigate the Guild, a technology conglomerate led by Emma Kagan that claims to be protecting humanity.

During their mission, the members of Specter One are exposed to the Cradle, a hallucinogenic toxin that triggers shared visions linked to their personal traumas.

Their investigation gradually reveals that the threat goes beyond Menendez’s apparent return and directly involves the Guild, its use of the Cradle and an operation designed to manipulate fear on a large scale.

Overview

Overview

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 continues the futuristic branch of Black Ops in 2035 around David Mason and his Specter One unit. Avalon occupies a central place in this new confrontation, while the campaign combines covert operations, psychological warfare and environments directly tied to the characters’ perceptions and traumas.

Developed by Treyarch and Raven Software and published by Activision, the game was released on November 14, 2025. The platforms listed in this entry are PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Xbox One and PC. The associated genres are action, science fiction and FPS. The specified game modes are Single player, Multiplayer and Co-operative, and the engine listed is the IW Engine.

The campaign can be played solo or cooperatively with up to four players. Its missions span several environments and maintain progression connected to the rest of the game: global experience, weapon levels and various challenges also progress during the campaign.

After the first eleven missions, the campaign leads into Endgame, a replayable experience set in Avalon. This space can host up to 32 players divided into four-player squads, with each squad able to pursue different objectives in areas whose difficulty increases progressively.

Endgame adopts a more open structure than the preceding missions. Players choose their operator and loadout, explore Avalon on foot, by vehicle or in a wingsuit, complete dynamic missions and attempt to exfiltrate in order to retain part of the progression earned during their deployment.

This progression notably relies on Skill Tracks and a Combat Rating that allow different abilities to be developed. Weapons also gain levels across the game’s different modes, extending the principle of global progression introduced in the campaign.

The movement system retains the Omnimovement of Black Ops 6 but expands it with new possibilities. Characters can notably perform wall jumps, clear certain high obstacles and, in specific situations, use rolls to reduce the effects of a fall. Tactical Sprint is no longer available by default in multiplayer and instead requires a specific choice.

Multiplayer offers 16 maps designed for 6v6 at launch, including thirteen new maps and three from Black Ops II, alongside two large-scale maps. Their design leaves more room to exploit movement while maintaining clearly structured combat lanes and cover areas.

The Overclock system now allows Scorestreaks, Field Upgrades and equipment to be progressively upgraded through use. These elements can unlock several improvements that alter how they function or add new capabilities as they progress.

Perks also evolve through Hybrid Combat Specialties. Rather than building a specialization solely from a single family, certain combinations of Perks from different categories can activate hybrid bonuses and broaden class-building possibilities.

The Skirmish mode introduces 20v20 battles on maps designed for a larger scale. Objectives notably incorporate vehicles, wingsuits and the grappling hook, creating more room for rapid movement between several combat zones.

The third major component remains round-based Zombies. At launch, the main experience is Ashes of the Damned, a large map set in the Dark Aether that connects several areas and introduces a directly controllable vehicle for traveling between them.

Survival maps also return with more concentrated spaces dedicated directly to holding out against waves of undead. They offer a more compact approach than the broader structure of Ashes of the Damned.

Zombies progression retains several systems developed in previous installments, including loadouts, Augments and GobbleGums, while adding new equipment, enemies and movement possibilities. Dead Ops Arcade 4 completes the offering with its top-down gameplay and arcade-oriented cooperative combat.

Black Ops 7 therefore connects its three components more closely through progression. The campaign is no longer isolated from the rest of the game, Endgame directly extends its structure in Avalon, multiplayer develops Omnimovement with new movement options and Zombies expands its round-based format into a more open map supported by vehicles.

Key takeaways

  • The campaign takes place in 2035 and follows David Mason and the Specter One unit in their investigation of the Guild in Avalon.
  • It can be played solo or cooperatively with up to four players.
  • After the first eleven missions, Endgame opens Avalon into a replayable experience that can bring together up to 32 players.
  • Campaign progression is connected to player levels, weapons and challenges across other modes.
  • Omnimovement notably evolves with wall jumps and new traversal possibilities.
  • Multiplayer offers 16 6v6 maps and two large-scale maps at launch, with 20v20 Skirmish.
  • The Overclock system progresses Scorestreaks, Field Upgrades and equipment through use.
  • Zombies returns in a round-based format with Ashes of the Damned, vehicles, Survival maps and Dead Ops Arcade 4.

Conclusion

Black Ops 7 primarily changes the traditional role of the campaign in Call of Duty. It becomes cooperative, contributes to global progression and continues beyond its main missions in Endgame, where Avalon becomes a replayable space built around exploration, objectives and exfiltration.

Multiplayer, meanwhile, continues the transformation of movement begun in Black Ops 6. Wall jumps expand Omnimovement, while Overclock and Hybrid Combat Specialties play a greater role in progression and loadout construction.

Zombies retains its round-based structure but applies it to Ashes of the Damned, whose scale and vehicles change how players move between areas. The three major components remain distinct, but now share progression, weapons and movement systems more directly.
