Exhausted by a succession of battles and crises in Gotham, Batman sees his physical and mental endurance pushed to the limit when Bane orchestrates a mass breakout from Arkham in order to wear him down completely. After methodically studying his opponent, Bane eventually breaks Bruce Wayne and leaves him unable to continue his mission. Forced to give up the mantle temporarily, Bruce entrusts the role of Batman to Jean-Paul Valley, also known as Azrael. But his successor adopts increasingly violent methods and gradually transforms the identity of the Dark Knight, forcing Bruce to rebuild himself and reclaim his place.

Issue 1
By planning the escape of all criminals from Arkham's asylum, Bane executes the first movement of a carefully thought plan. His goal is simple: to physically and mentally destroy the Black Knight. Accumulated, exhausted, Batman is forced to use his last forces to finally confess to being defeated, for the very first time.
Issue 2
Summary of the volume: Bane just broke Batman. Gotham is at his mercy. His Black Knight is fallen. But if Bruce Wayne is out of combat, another vigilante will take over the uniform and stand up against the hordes of Bane.
Issue 3
Bruce Wayne is broken. Bane is fallen. Jean-Paul Valley is now Gotham's protector, but the underworld does not hear him from this ear and throws a killer after him. And in the shadows, Joker and Catwoman are fomenting new mischiefs. Meanwhile, Bruce Wayne is going to London on the track of Dr. Kinsolving and Jack Drake.
Issue 4
Jean-Paul Valley, the new Batman, is dark in psychosis, tortured by the ghosts of his father and Saint Dumas. His confrontation with Abattoir and Gunhawk will lead him on an increasingly dangerous and violent slope. Will Bruce Wayne be able to heal in time and prevent Gotham from plunged back into chaos? The continuation of the saga previously unreleased in France, KNIGHTFALL, sees for the first time another hero taking over the torch under Gotham's cape and mask. Under the guidance of editorial director Dennis O'NEIL (GREEN LANTERN/GREEN ARROW), Chuck DIXON (ROBIN, BIRDS OF PREY), Alan GRANT (LOBO) and Doug MOENCH (BATMAN-LA BRUME PURRE), deliver a haling scenario forever upsetting the mythology of the vigilante.
Issue 5
The new Batman, Jean-Paul Valley, has betrayed his oath and the cause of his predecessor by killing the criminal Abattoir. Bruce Wayne, who has been wounded, returns to Gotham City. But he will still need intensive training to be able to become the only Black Knight again. The fragrant conclusion of the saga never before seen in France, KNIGHTFALL, sees Bruce Wayne's return under the cape and mask of Gotham's protector. Under the leadership of editorial director Dennis O'NEIL (GREEN LANTERN/GREEN ARROW), Chuck DIXON (ROBIN, BIRDS OF PREY), Alan GRANT (LOBO), and Doug MOENCH (BATMAN - LA BRUME POURRE), confront the two versions of the hero, with diametrically opposed methods.
