The Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense is an organization tasked with investigating supernatural phenomena and protecting humanity from occult threats. After Hellboy’s departure, its agents — including Abe Sapien, Liz Sherman, Johann Kraus, and several new recruits — continue carrying out missions around the world. What begins as a series of paranormal investigations gradually grows into something much larger as ancient creatures, cults, and apocalyptic forces begin transforming the planet. Faced with catastrophes that become increasingly difficult to contain, the B.P.R.D. slowly becomes one of humanity’s last lines of defense against extinction.

Issue 1
The Paranormal Search and Defense Bureau was founded in 1944, in response to the occult experiments conducted by the Nazis and then the Soviets. Its function: to monitor, study and circumscribe supernatural events occurring all over the world. Its star agent is Hellboy, whose investigations are reported in the eponymous series. Abe Sapiens and members of the B.P.R.D. investigate the disappearance of one of their colleagues, and sink deep into the Earth at the meeting of the King of Fear. A second investigation takes them to the Atlantic Ocean, where a phenomenon of envoking leads sailors to throw themselves in the middle of shark clouds.

Abe Sapiens and Hellboy's colleagues, who form the B.P.R.D., have much to do in this second volume: Venice is flooded by an evil marsh; the intact bodies of three women who have died for hundreds of years are discovered at the bottom of a pond; a ghost train is appearing in Alabama; children are taken away by fresh pulpit-loving monsters, and dead-living people are spreading terror in a small town in Moldova ...
Issue 3
The B.P.R.D. is called to rescue in order to stop an imbalance responsible for the invasion of millions of frogs. This madman wishes to carry out a prophecy launched by Rasputine, the mad monk encountered in the first volume of Hellboy's adventures.

Sue the coasts of Rhode Iceland, in a building in ruins, Abe Sapien retook his wife, who had drowned in the course of the 19th century. At the same time, the B.P.R.D., still marked by the scourge of frogs, moved into its new premises: an old base of government research in which one would have buried living a Nazi scientist, fifty years ago ...

The B.P.R.D. plunges a little more into the torment while the United States is in full swing under an invasion of demonic frogs. Haunted by their own demons, Abe Sapien and Liz Shermane are now only the shadow of themselves. And in the absence of the natural leader of the B.P.R.D., certain characters reveal themselves, ... A wicked entity haunts the corridors of the B.P.R.D. The Bureau will need the perfect cooperation of all its recruits - from Johann with his new body to Panya, a mummy full of resources - to undo these infernal forces. Evil patiently waited for his hour within the members of the B.P.R.D. It is time for him to manifest himself and put our agents of the supernatural to the test!

As the B.P.R.D. recovers from the disappearance of Captain Daimio, a mysterious message recommends to Abe, Johann and Kate to get in search as soon as possible of the one who haunts Liz's visions: a certain Martin Gilfryd alias Memnan Saa. At the same time, in Germany, creatures from the depths prepare the return of their sinister gods to Earth.

Liz has disappeared, and their most powerful enemies have joined together for an explosive attack. Many questions are asked of the members of the B.P.R.D.: What is the link between Memnan Saa and Martin Gylfrid? Where does Liz's power come from? Abe, Kate and Johann must question their loyalty to save their soul? Anyway, the balance of forces seems strongly challenged.

As Dr. Kate Corrigan tries to revive Agent Johann Strauss, Abe Sapien and Liz Sherman go looking for the one known as the "King of Fear". This mission is crucial, with its lot of revelations.
