The Strokes is an American rock band formed in New York in the late 1990s around Julian Casablancas, Nick Valensi, Albert Hammond Jr., Nikolai Fraiture and Fabrizio Moretti. The group became known for a sharp, direct and stylish sound blending garage rock, indie rock, post-punk and new-wave influences, driven by interlocking guitars and instantly recognizable vocals. With albums such as Is This It, Room on Fire and The New Abnormal, The Strokes became one of the most influential bands of the 2000s rock revival.
