BABYMETAL is a Japanese girl group formed in 2010, widely known for popularizing kawaii metal, a distinctive genre blending J-pop and heavy metal. Originally emerging as a subunit of the idol group Sakura Gakuin, the project stands out for its powerful guitar riffs, catchy melodies, synchronized choreography, and theatrical universe inspired by Japanese culture. Initially consisting of Su-metal, Moametal, and Yuimetal, the group evolved following the latter's departure in 2018, before officially welcoming Momometal in 2023. Gaining international recognition through the viral success of “Gimme Chocolate!!”, BABYMETAL further established its popularity with songs such as “Megitsune,” “Road of Resistance,” “KARATE,” and “PA PA YA!!”. Through albums including Metal Resistance, Metal Galaxy, The Other One, and Metal Forth (2025), alongside collaborations with Electric Callboy, Bring Me the Horizon, and Tom Morello, the trio has become a distinctive force in the international metal scene, pushing the boundaries between pop, metal, and musical spectacle.
