Thorfinn and his crew are on their way to Greece, the first stop on their expedition to Vinland. They make a stop on the European continent, in Norway, near Bergen. Hardly having disembarked, Thorfinn is attacked by a bear and saved at the last moment by Hild, a hunter, who offers to share her meal with them. As everyone sits around the fire, Hild tells them about the night her life changed, when a horde of warriors raided her village and massacred her family.
