Elefseria safely transports the magicians and Athena to the Magia Dragon guild headquarters. Athena recovers and reveals that Gold Owl is a product of the disembodied will of Viernes, the current Duke being an artifact based on the true Duke (deceased). To defeat Viernes, they must separate his will from Gold Owl and use the mythical Philosopher's Stone to restore his physical form. The team, Jellal and Athena, return to Gold Owl to retrieve Wendy's magic but are drawn into a fight against members, including Athena II (a version without emotion imbued with Wendy's and Rogue's magic). Jellal destroys the fake God Serena and commits to joining Fairy Tail to clear his name. Saber Tooth seeks an alchemist capable of creating the Philosopher's Stone, meeting Zalam who directs them to a brilliant alchemist, Iruha.
