Entire in Trissotin, poet of pacolette, Philaminte, Armande and Bélise are complacent in the joys of the mind. They discuss grammar, astronomy, metaphysics and morals. They boast to excess the exercise of reason to the detriment of the body. They exhibited their knowledge of the authors in vogue, derogating at all points from the rules of honesty. And were finally quite unable to detect Trissotin's true plan: to get hold of the family fortune. Created in 1672 when Molière was at the top of his glory, the play lost nothing of his prick. For if grammairian women or astronomers are no longer laughing, the systematic repetition of the latest fashion theories remains laughable. Raising narrow sight of the paedants, the learned women express in a hollow deep modern values: those of individual judgment, pleasure and the rights of the body.
