Synopsis

The Blood of Dawnwalker

In 14th-century Europe, ravaged by war and the Black Death, vampires take advantage of weakened populations to seize control of Val Sangora, an isolated region in the Carpathians. Coen, a young man transformed into a Dawnwalker and condemned to live as a human by day and a vampire by night, has thirty days and thirty nights to save his family from the vampire lord Brencis. His choices, alliances and the time devoted to each objective gradually determine how his story unfolds.

Overview

Presentation

The Blood of Dawnwalker is an open-world dark fantasy Action RPG developed by Rebel Wolves. The adventure takes place in a reimagined 14th-century Europe, in Val Sangora, a fictional region of the Carpathians controlled by a powerful vampire community.

The player controls Coen, a young man transformed into a Dawnwalker: he remains human during the day, while his vampiric nature emerges once night falls. This duality is one of the main foundations of the gameplay.

During the day, Coen notably relies on his sword and Magic taught by Anca. These spells can be used to attack, control enemies, weaken their abilities or strengthen some of Coen's own options.

At night, he gains access to a different set of vampire powers. Some abilities greatly improve mobility, including ways to move quickly across elevated areas or use buildings in ways unavailable to human Coen.

These powers are tied to corruption and blood. Embracing his vampiric nature further unlocks new abilities, although several of them also require sacrifices.

Sword combat can be approached in different ways. The Omniattack and Omniblock systems simplify the selection of attack and defense directions, while more manual directional controls allow players to precisely choose strikes, parries and counters.

This approach emphasizes reading enemy movements, timing and finding openings. Coen can also complement his swordsmanship with Magic during the day and vampire abilities at night.

Time is also a genuine narrative resource. Coen has 30 days and 30 nights to try to save his family, but time does not continuously pass while the player explores or fights.

Certain quests, decisions or actions instead have a clearly indicated time cost. It is therefore impossible to complete every storyline in a single playthrough, and choosing to help one character can sometimes mean abandoning another possibility.

This structure, described by Rebel Wolves as a narrative sandbox, partially removes the traditional separation between main and side quests. Actions, sacrifices and alliances directly shape Coen's journey.

Key points

  • An open-world dark fantasy Action RPG.
  • An alternate 14th-century Europe.
  • Val Sangora, a fictional region in the Carpathians.
  • Coen as the protagonist.
  • Coen is human by day and vampire by night.
  • Two different gameplay loops and abilities depending on the time of day.
  • Close-range combat mainly built around the sword.
  • A directional system for strikes, parries and counters.
  • Omniattack and Omniblock provide a more assisted alternative.
  • Magic is mainly available during the day.
  • Vampire powers emerge at night.
  • Several vampire abilities greatly improve mobility.
  • Progression divided between swordsmanship, Magic and Vampirism.
  • 30 days and 30 nights to try to save Coen's family.
  • Quests and decisions consume time, but free exploration does not.

Conclusion

The Blood of Dawnwalker builds its RPG structure around Coen's two complementary forms, changing both his combat options and the way he explores Val Sangora.

Swordsmanship and Magic dominate his human approach, while night unleashes more instinctive vampire powers and different mobility options. Skill trees also allow players to specialize in one path or combine these different aspects.

The time system extends this duality into the narrative: not every situation can be resolved in a single playthrough, forcing the player to choose which people, alliances and objectives Coen will dedicate his thirty days and nights to.

Good to know

The Blood of Dawnwalker is developed by Rebel Wolves and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment.

The game was released on September 3, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

It uses Unreal Engine 5.

It is the first chapter of a new original saga created by Rebel Wolves.

The adventure takes place in Val Sangora, a fictional region of the Carpathians ruled by the Vrakhiri, a community of powerful vampires.

Brencis, the vampire lord controlling the region and holding Coen's family, plays a central role in the story.

Time does not function like a traditional clock: exploring, fighting or simply remaining in the world does not automatically advance the thirty days. Only certain narrative actions have a time cost.

Each relevant activity indicates in advance how much time it will consume.

Progression uses shared experience and skill points across Coen's different paths. Swordsmanship, Magic and Vampirism can therefore be developed separately or combined.

New sword techniques and Magic abilities also require discovering certain knowledge in the world, while the strongest vampire abilities require Coen to increase his corruption.

Fast travel is available from the map, while nighttime vampire powers provide additional movement options. Coen does not have a mount.

This entry focuses on Coen, Val Sangora, the day/night duality, the thirty-day structure, sword combat, Magic, vampire powers and the narrative structure, without detailing every quest, alliance or possible consequence.
