Overview

Presentation

Rayman Legends Retold revisits Rayman Legends as a full reinterpretation rather than a simple remaster. The game retains the platforming foundations that defined the 2013 title — running, jumping, gliding, combat, exploration and rescuing Teensies — while rebuilding its universe with new 3D visuals, a reworked narrative and several pieces of original content.

The Glade of Dreams once again serves as the setting for Rayman and his companions. A selection of iconic levels returns in reworked versions, while the journey expands into an entirely new sixth realm. This new structure allows the game to revisit familiar situations while introducing new environments, encounters and surprises.

The visual transformation is one of the most significant changes. While Rayman Legends relied on the 2D aesthetic of the UbiArt Framework, Retold rebuilds its environments in 3D while preserving gameplay primarily designed around side-scrolling platforming. The presentation makes greater use of depth, camera movement and cinematic sequences to give the characters and environments a different presence.

The game also expands its storytelling. The story is rewritten around a new threat spreading corruption throughout the Glade of Dreams, with additional interactions between characters and fully voiced cinematics. The stated aim is to provide greater coherence between the different worlds and elements of the Rayman universe without abandoning the series' whimsical tone.

The musical levels return and remain built around synchronization between movement, obstacles and music. Four new musical stages complement the sequences returning from the original game. The soundtrack itself is expanded with new compositions by Christophe Héral and Grant Kirkhope, alongside familiar themes.

Other sequences aim to broaden the formula further. Rayman and his companions can take part in new dragon-riding sections, while the Cave of Trials introduces additional challenges designed to test mastery of movement and platforming mechanics.

Local co-op remains at the heart of the multiplayer experience. The entire adventure can be played solo or with up to four players on the same system, in a format where cooperation, competition for Lums and interactions between characters can quickly turn a precise platforming section into cheerful chaos.

The Kung Foot mode also returns in a revised form called Kung Foot Evo. This new version retains the football mini-game concept from Rayman Legends while adding reworked controls, power-ups and more options for customizing the rules.

  • New dragon-riding sections and the Cave of Trials broaden the gameplay situations.
  • The entire adventure can be played solo or in local co-op for up to four players.
  • Kung Foot Evo revisits and expands the multiplayer mini-game from Rayman Legends.

Conclusion

Rayman Legends Retold uses Rayman Legends as its foundation but aims to rebuild the experience rather than simply modernize it technically. The move to a 3D presentation, the new narrative, the additional realm and the original content give the project a scope that differs from a traditional port or remaster.

The defining elements of Legends nevertheless remain at the center of this new version: fluid movement, local co-op, Teensies to rescue and musical levels. Retold therefore seeks to preserve the platforming structure of the original game while reorganizing its universe and developing new situations around it.

Good to know

Rayman Legends Retold is published by Ubisoft and is scheduled for release in France on October 1, 2026.

The game is planned for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, as well as through selected game streaming services.

It can be played solo or in local co-op for up to four players.

The standard edition also includes Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition, a modernized version of Rayman Origins featuring graphical improvements and various quality-of-life adjustments.

Rayman Legends Retold should be distinguished from Rayman Legends, released in 2013: it retains its foundations and a selection of its content while introducing a new visual presentation, a reworked story and additional material.

This entry describes the game based on information officially released before launch; some elements may therefore need to be clarified once the final version becomes available.
