Overview
Presentation
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is an action-adventure game that follows Bruce Wayne from his origins to his establishment as Batman. TT Games does not directly adapt the story of a specific film or television series: instead, the game builds an original narrative by combining and reinterpreting elements drawn from several decades of films, television shows, comics and games centered on the Dark Knight.
The adventure notably begins with a younger Bruce Wayne being trained by the League of Shadows, before following the gradual construction of Batman and the circle around him. Over the course of the story, Jim Gordon, Catwoman, Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl and Talia al Ghul also become playable. Each has their own abilities, gadgets, combos and progression trees, allowing for different approaches beyond Batman alone.
The combat system has been completely reworked to place greater emphasis on combos, counters, gadgets and spectacular takedowns. Batman can notably use his Batarangs to stun or distract an opponent and his Bat-grapple to pull enemies toward him. The other characters have their own specialized tools, such as Robin's line launcher, Jim Gordon's foam sprayer or Catwoman's whip.
Stealth forms another important part of the action. Gotham includes situations where players can observe enemies, move discreetly and use the environment or gadgets before engaging directly in combat. Batman's detective abilities complement this approach through observation and investigation sequences integrated into missions.
The story takes place across an open-world Gotham City that can be explored outside the main missions. The city contains crimes to stop, puzzles, challenges, secrets and various rewards to discover. Exploration therefore extends the narrative campaign by giving Batman and his allies numerous activities to complete between major story objectives.
Traversal also relies on several Batmobiles and Batcycles drawn from different incarnations of the character. The famous Tumbler is among the available vehicles. They can be used to cross Gotham, take part in chases and explore the city more quickly, while different customization options accompany their use.
Progression also allows players to unlock numerous costumes and alternate outfits inspired by the history of Batman and his allies. Around one hundred appearances are available throughout the campaign, giving the game a collection aspect that accompanies the individual upgrades of each character.
The Batcave is another central element of the experience. It develops alongside Batman's progression and can receive various customization elements obtained during the adventure. It therefore acts as a point of reference between activities across Gotham and the gradual construction of the Dark Knight's identity.
The entire game can be played in single-player, but it also includes local two-player co-op on the same screen. No online cooperative mode is planned: cooperation remains deliberately built around couch play, continuing the tradition of many TT Games LEGO titles.
For players looking for a higher level of challenge, Dark Knight Mode offers a more demanding variation. It complements a game that retains the characteristic humor of LEGO productions while placing greater emphasis on combat, exploration and Batman-specific mechanics.

Conclusion
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight brings together several sides of Batman within a single adventure rather than adapting one specific incarnation of the character. The story follows different stages in the development of Bruce Wayne and the people around him while reinterpreting references from across the Dark Knight's history through TT Games' LEGO style.
Its gameplay also develops several complementary dimensions. Combat gives players greater control over combos and gadgets, while stealth, investigation, exploration of Gotham and the use of different vehicles provide varied approaches.
The presence of several playable characters also gives greater importance to the Bat-Family and Batman's allies. The game therefore does not simply tell the story of how Bruce Wayne becomes Gotham's protector: it also shows how the group around him gradually takes shape.
Good to know
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight was developed by TT Games and published by Warner Bros. Games.
The game was released on May 22, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, through Steam and the Epic Games Store.
The Nintendo Switch 2 version was subsequently released on September 18, 2026.
The title is a new LEGO Batman adventure rather than a direct adaptation of the previous LEGO Batman games. Its original story draws from around eight decades of the character's incarnations across comics, film, television and video games.
Major antagonists notably include the Joker, the Penguin, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Ra's al Ghul and Bane.
Co-op is limited to two players locally. An Internet connection is not required to play the main content, aside from downloading updates.
A Deluxe Edition and various additional content expand the game. The Mayhem Collection, released after the main launch, notably adds a mode focused on the Joker and Harley Quinn; it is therefore not part of the foundations covered by this entry on the base game.
