In a world whose history was secretly manipulated to prevent the rise of many superheroes, Peter Parker grew up without ever becoming Spider-Man. Now an adult, married to Mary Jane and raising a family, he discovers that the destiny he should have known was stolen from him. When an opportunity finally allows him to gain his powers, Peter consciously chooses to become a hero despite the risks to his family. His first adventures lead him to join forces with Harry Osborn, now the Green Goblin, while Wilson Fisk controls much of New York from the shadows. Between family responsibilities, learning to use his powers, and revelations about the true structure of the world, Peter tries to become the Spider-Man this reality was never meant to have.
