Toots & The Maytals was a Jamaican group formed in the 1960s around singer Frederick “Toots” Hibbert. Their music blended ska, rocksteady, reggae, soul and gospel, driven by a powerful voice, warm vocal harmonies and an energy strongly rooted in rhythm and blues. With songs such as 54-46 That’s My Number, Pressure Drop and Do the Reggay, Toots & The Maytals became one of the founding groups of reggae and played a major role in bringing the genre to an international audience.
