The White Stripes was an American rock duo formed in Detroit in the late 1990s by Jack White and Meg White. Their music was built around a deliberately minimalist approach blending garage rock, blues, punk and alternative rock, driven by raw guitar riffs, stripped-down drumming and a strong visual identity based on red, white and black. With albums such as White Blood Cells, Elephant and Get Behind Me Satan, The White Stripes became one of the defining acts of the 2000s garage-rock revival.
