Public Enemy is an American hip-hop group formed in Long Island, New York, around Chuck D, Flavor Flav, Professor Griff and the production team The Bomb Squad. Active since the 1980s, the group became known for politically charged, forceful rap driven by abrasive production and lyrics addressing racism, inequality, media representation and power structures in the United States. With landmark albums such as It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back and Fear of a Black Planet, Public Enemy became one of the most influential and politically engaged groups in hip-hop history.
