N.W.A was an American hip-hop group formed in Compton, California, around figures including Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, MC Ren and DJ Yella. In the late 1980s, the group established a confrontational and provocative style of rap depicting violence, social tensions, relations with law enforcement and everyday life in disadvantaged areas of Los Angeles. With albums such as Straight Outta Compton and Niggaz4Life, N.W.A became one of the foundational groups of gangsta rap and had a major influence on the development of West Coast hip-hop.
