As Thorfinn, Einar, and Leif prepare to leave for Greece, the first stop on their expedition to Vinland, they are forced to leave Iceland in a hurry, taking Gudrid with them, who, unable to give up her dreams of discovering the World and take on the role of a conventional wife imposed upon her by tradition, stabbed Sigurd during their wedding night.
Barely started, their journey is plagued by unforeseen events: a fugitive, a baby, a dog, pursuers, a killer bear. The situation becomes even more complicated when Thorfinn finds himself face-to-face with the child of a man he assassinated on the battlefield.
