Volume 1
The Continent of Orience is divided into four nations, each with a crystal that gives it unique powers. Militants, nation of the White Tiger, Concordia, country of the Dragon Azur, Lorica, guardian of the Black Turtle and Rubrum, homeland of the Vermillon Bird, have long been engaged in a bloody war with disastrous consequences... Nine years before the outbreak of this conflict, young Kurasame Susaya is still only a student of the prestigious Rubrum Magic Academy. Cold, distant and contemptuous vis-à-vis other students, the fearsome fighter will yet mark the story of Rubrum before becoming the instructor of the legendary Zero Class...
Volume 2
On Miwa's advice, Kurasame is just beginning to integrate into Class Three and even agrees to take part in a bravery test. Unfortunately, this one quickly turns into a nightmare when the students are attacked by concordian criminals... Only four aspiring candidates escape from it: Kurasame, Glenn, Miwa and Kotetsu. If the drama has tightened the ties between them, the survivors have difficulty overcoming their trauma. So when they are entrusted with a mission for the Kingdom of Concordia, the future Rubrum champions are reluctant to help those they see as enemies! Yet, they are still far from knowing the whole truth about what is happening in Orience...
Volume 3
Kurasame and Glenn feared to come to the aid of the kingdom of Concordia, which they considered to be responsible for all their evils. Except that the inhabitants are far from being the monsters that the two aspiring men had imagined... And when finally the enemy manifests itself, it is under the traits of Rubrum warriors! We must go to the obvious: Akademeia is not immune to a betrayal. An idea that Kurasame has difficulty accepting, especially since his encounter with Aoi, it is rather love that is at the center of his concerns! Whether he wants it or not, plot is tragedying in the shadow... But when each one is suspect, to whom to trust?
Volume 4
In spite of the proven presence of traitors in Akademeia, Kurasame opposes the establishment of new surveillance devices to the questionable ethics. But by relying on Urushi, who supports him in this way, he made a terrible mistake: while the aspirant had entrusted him with the custody of Aoi before embarking on a non-regular mission, the young officer turns out to be a spy on the pay of Militia! Kurasame's choices have endangered the lives of many people, including Commander Takatsugu. Will the student be able to save the master?
Volume 5
It is with a small number of troops that the Rubrum champions are entrusted with their most perilous mission: the assassination of Marshal Cid Aulstyne, who was responsible for Militia's aggressive policy! Up to the fortress of the tyrant, the path is expected to be difficult... Kurasame is facing Glenn and Morse, the two fallen heroes in turn. But once at the destination, the warrior with the ice sword will have to fight a fight quite different from the one he imagined at the beginning...
