Before the appearance of Goku Black, Trunks trained with Kaiō-shin in his timeline and defeated Bobbidi using his Super Saiyan 2—but Kaiō-shin died, leading to Beerus's death as well. Beerus and Whis deduce that Goku Black must be a high-level god himself. Zenō-sama calls Goku as a friend and gives him a button to summon him. Beerus and Whis identify Zamas (Kaiō-shin of Universe 10, apprentice of Gowas) as the culprit. Goku Black killed Gowas, used the Super Dragon Balls to swap bodies with Goku (and kill Goku), traveled to Trunks' timeline, and killed the Kaiō-shin, which killed the Gods of Destruction. Vegeta confronts Goku Black, but Zamas (from Trunks' timeline) appears and heals him, allowing him to reach Super Saiyan Rosé. Zamas became immortal via the Dragon Balls.
