Bulma, the young heiress of Capsule Corp, meets Son Goku, a monkey-tailed boy with prodigious martial arts talent. She asks him to accompany her to search for the seven Dragon Balls, which grant a wish to whoever gathers them. Goku reveals that his grandfather, Son Gohan, gave him a 4-star Dragon Ball. Together, they meet the old Kame-Sen'nin (Turtle Master), who gives them the 4th Dragon Ball and the Kinto'un (flying cloud) as a reward. They retrieve the 5th by defeating the shapeshifting pig Oolong. On the way, they are attacked by the bandit Yamcha (and Pu'ar), who wants to steal the Dragon Balls. They discover the 6th in a burning castle whose owner, Gyū-Maō (Bull King), tells them that only Kame-Sen'nin can put out the fire.
