Overview
Presentation
WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers is a Soulslike Action RPG developed by Leenzee. The adventure takes place in a dark fantasy version of the Chinese region of Shu, during the chaotic final years of the Ming dynasty.
The player takes the role of Wuchang, a pirate warrior who awakens with no memory of her past. She is also afflicted by Feathering, a mysterious disease responsible for mutations affecting both the inhabitants and the creatures encountered throughout the journey.
Her exploration takes her through abandoned temples, cursed villages, ruins, mountains and overgrown areas, within a large interconnected world where shortcuts and side paths gradually open new routes.
Combat is built around timing, dodging, positioning and chaining together physical attacks, weapon techniques and spells.
The Skyborn Might system is one of the main mechanics. Certain well-executed actions allow this resource to be accumulated, after which it can be spent on different techniques or supernatural abilities.
Wuchang can wield several weapon categories, each with its own moves and skills. The arsenal notably includes swords, dual blades, spears and heavy axes, allowing the player to move from a fast and mobile style to a much more powerful approach.
Weapons can be combined with different skills and enchantments. The player can therefore build a playstyle around melee combat, magic or a combination of both.
Progression is handled through the Impetus Repository, a network where acquired resources can be invested to improve attributes and unlock new abilities.
Certain bosses and enemies can also grant their signature abilities, gradually expanding the available combat options.
The Inner Demon adds an additional risk mechanic. Its mark increases through battles and deaths, improving Wuchang's offensive power while also making her more vulnerable.
When this corruption becomes too strong, the Inner Demon can take form. Wuchang must then confront this manifestation of her own power or risk losing the resources she has accumulated.
