Overview

Presentation

NTE: Neverness to Everness is an open-world action RPG developed by Hotta Studio and published by Perfect World Games and Iwplay World Interactive Entertainment. Its universe blends urban fantasy, paranormal phenomena and everyday life in a sprawling modern metropolis. With a visual style inspired by Japanese animation, the game offers an adventure where supernatural investigations coexist with exploration, real-time combat and various urban simulation activities.

The story takes place in Hethereau, a city where humans and supernatural manifestations coexist to the point that the extraordinary has become part of everyday life. Players take on the role of an Appraiser specializing in anomalies, recruited by Eibon, an antique shop that accepts investigation commissions to stay afloat. Alongside a group of companions, the Appraiser travels through different districts to investigate unexplained phenomena and understand their effects on local residents. The narrative alternates between urban mysteries, unusual encounters and sometimes humorous situations, while developing relationships between the characters.

The city itself is the main setting for exploration. Hethereau features shopping districts, busy streets, buildings, entertainment venues and locations concealing unusual phenomena. Players can travel freely through its neighborhoods, discover side missions and interact with residents displaying a variety of behaviors. Exploration takes place on foot or behind the wheel of vehicles, while certain supernatural abilities and transportation options provide alternative ways to reach different areas of the metropolis. This freedom of movement connects investigations with a broader urban life experience.

Real-time combat revolves around character abilities and supernatural powers known as Esper abilities. Each companion possesses distinctive powers used to attack, move or interact with certain elements of the environment. Coordinating these abilities allows players to trigger Esper reactions, while dodging and skill activation shape the rhythm of encounters. Some missions also introduce specific situations combining exploration, observation and the resolution of paranormal threats.

Beyond investigations and combat, players can take part in various urban activities. They can acquire and customize vehicles, enter races, purchase property or develop commercial ventures. Everyday occupations, such as making deliveries, driving a taxi or fishing, offer additional ways to experience Hethereau. Interactions with companions also contribute to the game's social dimension, particularly through outings and the customization of certain living spaces.

Designed as an evolving free-to-play game, NTE: Neverness to Everness combines a primarily single-player narrative adventure with multiplayer and cooperative features. Progression involves obtaining characters, developing their abilities and accessing new activities introduced through updates. The overall experience brings together supernatural investigation, action and urban life simulation, within a metropolis that serves both as a narrative setting and as a space for experimentation.

Conclusion

NTE: Neverness to Everness builds its adventure around a metropolis where supernatural phenomena are integrated into everyday life. Esper powers and real-time battles bring an action-oriented dimension to this exploration.

Activities outside the main missions also play an important role. Driving, property ownership, business management and social interactions extend the experience beyond narrative progression. The game therefore combines action RPG mechanics, paranormal investigation and urban simulation, making Hethereau both an environment to explore and a place where players can pursue their own activities.

Good to know

NTE: Neverness to Everness, also known as Neverness to Everness, was released on April 29, 2026, for PlayStation 5, PC, Mac and mobile devices. It was developed by Hotta Studio and uses Unreal Engine 5.

Hotta Studio is also the developer behind Tower of Fantasy. For NTE, the studio notably uses Unreal Engine 5's Nanite technology to render Hethereau's numerous buildings, objects and detailed environments.

The game follows a free-to-play model with in-game purchases, including randomized content acquisition systems. Progression also relies on mission rewards, city activities and character development.

Hethereau offers a variety of optional activities, including car racing, business management, housing, fishing and board games. Relationship systems also allow players to invite certain companions on outings or share living spaces.

Multiplayer and cooperative features complement the single-player adventure. The game supports interactions between compatible platforms, while certain activities and narrative sequences remain designed for individual progression.

On PlayStation 5, the game makes use of the DualSense controller's haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. The PlayStation 5 Pro version also benefits from graphical enhancements, particularly in resolution and lighting effects. A first-person perspective option provides an additional way to explore the city.

NTE features English, Japanese, Chinese and Korean voice acting, alongside text and subtitles in several languages, including French, English, Spanish and German. An Internet connection and a game account are required to access its services.
