Overview

Presentation

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is an Action RPG serving as the third and final entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake project. It directly continues the story developed in Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, bringing the new journey of Cloud and his companions to its conclusion.

The world now faces several simultaneous threats. Meteor hangs over the planet, the colossal Weapons awaken and military conflict continues to intensify while Sephiroth pursues his own ambitions.

Exploration reaches a new scale thanks to the Highwind. The airship allows players to travel freely across the planet, fly over its different regions and choose where to land in order to explore cities, territories and remote areas.

The open world is therefore no longer limited to several large connected regions as in Rebirth. The Highwind now links them together and turns the entire planet into a travel space.

Piko, the chocobo encountered previously, also accompanies the group. He can be used as a mount but can also participate in combat, while developing new abilities useful for both exploration and battles.

The combat system retains the combination of real-time action and tactical commands from the previous two games. Players can attack directly, fill the ATB gauge and then use abilities, magic, items and other actions while slowing the pace of battle.

Materia remains at the heart of customization. Different combinations allow spells, support abilities, summons and other properties to be assigned to party members.

Cid and Vincent now become fully playable characters, joining Cloud, Barret, Tifa, Red XIII, Yuffie and Cait Sith among the available fighters.

A new feature also allows players to instantly switch the controlled character and modify the party composition during exploration, providing more freedom to use each party member's unique abilities.

The new FITS system — Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear — adds another layer of customization. These outfits change character appearances but, more importantly, grant new abilities and combat functions.

Four FITS specializations have been announced: Warrior, Knight, Black Mage and Summoner. They notably allow a character to be oriented toward offense, defense and support, elemental magic or summons.

Exploration also benefits from a grappling hook, which can be used to quickly reach certain rooftops and move vertically through different environments.

Certain quests finally allow players to choose which party member will take part. This decision can alter specific narrative events or situations, giving companions a stronger role in how the adventure unfolds.

Conclusion

Final Fantasy VII Revelation expands the systems established by the first two games while extending exploration to the scale of the entire planet.

The Highwind gives travel a new dimension, while Cid and Vincent finally complete the playable party and the FITS system introduces new specialization options in combat.

These changes primarily support the final act of the story: Meteor, the awakening of the Weapons and the confrontation with Sephiroth bring the various paths opened since Final Fantasy VII Remake toward their conclusion.

Good to know

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is developed and published by Square Enix.

The game launches on April 8, 2027 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Steam, Epic Games Store and Xbox on PC.

It officially serves as the conclusion of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, following Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

The title is designed for one player.

The combat system retains the hybrid approach of the Remake series while introducing the new FITS system, built around four announced specializations: Warrior, Knight, Black Mage and Summoner.

Cid and Vincent become full playable members of the party in this entry.

The Queen's Blood card game returns with a new storyline centered on Red XIII, new opponents and additional variations on its mechanics.

Players with save data from Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade or Final Fantasy VII Rebirth can obtain several bonuses, including summon materia and weapon appearances.

A Story Expansion Pass is also planned. It includes two additional narrative expansions scheduled for release between winter 2027 and spring 2028. These expansions remain separate from the game's main story.

This entry focuses on the main campaign, exploration aboard the Highwind, combat, the FITS system and the core new features of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, without detailing the different commercial editions or future DLC individually.
