Overview
Presentation
Final Fantasy Resonance is a role-playing adventure game that revisits the foundations of the Final Fantasy series through an HD-2D visual style, combining pixel-art characters, three-dimensional environments and modern visual effects. Inspired by the first major storyline of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, it is not simply a port of the original mobile game, but a completely rebuilt adaptation for consoles and PC. The adventure brings back several iconic elements of the franchise: elemental crystals, summons, airships and a group of heroes brought together to confront a threat extending beyond their kingdom.
The story begins in the kingdom of Grandshelt, where the knights Rain and Lasswell investigate the weakening protection of a shrine. Their encounter with a mysterious warrior in black armor sets them on a journey through several regions, each possessing its own traditions, characters and connections to the crystals. Along the way, the two companions notably meet Fina, a young woman suffering from amnesia, as well as other allies who gradually join their party. The story explores relationships between the protagonists, their motivations and the conflicts threatening the world's balance, following a narrative structure reminiscent of the series' classic installments.
Exploration plays an important role throughout the adventure. Players travel through towns, natural regions, shrines and dungeons, where they meet new characters, collect equipment and battle various creatures. Chocobos and airships provide transportation across the world, while towns offer opportunities to replenish supplies and participate in different activities. Optional quests, hidden secrets and particularly powerful enemies extend the journey beyond the main storyline. This structure returns to the principles of a traditional RPG, where discovering the world and developing the party accompany the progression of the narrative.
Battles use a strategic turn-based combat system, organized around a timeline displaying the upcoming actions of allies and enemies. Players must consider this order when preparing attacks, protecting their characters and exploiting enemy weaknesses. Each opponent possesses a Break Gauge, which can be depleted through appropriate attacks. Once emptied, the enemy temporarily loses the ability to act and becomes more vulnerable. Successfully exploiting these mechanics grants additional actions, while breaking all enemies simultaneously allows the party to launch a coordinated offensive phase. Combat therefore combines turn management with finding combinations capable of changing the course of a battle.
Party customization notably revolves around Visions, crystallized manifestations of heroes from the Final Fantasy universe. By equipping them, characters can use their techniques and develop new abilities according to the bonds established with these legendary figures. Heroes such as Cloud, Tidus and the Warrior of Light therefore participate in the progression system, while Resonance attacks allow players to unleash their power during certain combat phases. Summons, including Ifrit, Shiva and Titan, form a separate mechanic: they temporarily join battles before unleashing their signature attacks. In this way, Final Fantasy Resonance combines party composition, skill customization and the exploitation of enemy weaknesses, within an adventure that revisits the traditions of the classic Japanese RPG.

Conclusion
Final Fantasy Resonance reinterprets the first major adventure of Brave Exvius as an RPG built around exploration, crystals and turn-based combat. Rain and Lasswell's journey follows the franchise's tradition of fantasy storytelling, while its HD-2D presentation combines the aesthetics of earlier installments with contemporary visual techniques.
The Break system, Visions and summons expand tactical possibilities without abandoning the principles of traditional combat. Towns, dungeons and optional activities complement this progression. The game therefore brings together the historical foundations of Final Fantasy, character customization and a new visual interpretation of its universe.
Good to know
Final Fantasy Resonance was released on October 22, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. It is an exclusively single-player adventure, with its story and battles completely reworked for an experience on consoles and computers.
The game revisits the first major storyline of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, an RPG originally developed for mobile platforms. This new version does not simply retain the original systems: it rebuilds combat, presentation and progression around a traditional role-playing formula. It also marks the first installment in the Final Fantasy franchise presented in HD-2D.
The art direction combines high-definition pixel-art characters, 3D environments, dynamic lighting and cinematic camera movements. Certain sequences use redesigned three-dimensional models to preserve a pixelated appearance. Summons and the techniques of legendary heroes also feature dedicated animations.
Visions can notably be obtained from Shrines of Light scattered throughout the world. Each Vision provides distinctive abilities and can develop its powers as its bond with the equipped character grows stronger. The system allows players to combine different skills and adapt the roles of party members. Resonance attacks become available after successfully breaking all enemies simultaneously.
Alongside the campaign, the game features several optional challenges, including a Colosseum where players can face formidable creatures and a Chamber of Arms containing opponents connected to legendary equipment. Encounters with iconic enemies, including Ultima Weapon, complement these activities. Side quests, hidden items and several minigames are also available throughout the regions players explore.
A free demo allows players to experience the first chapter, with the option to transfer their save data to the full game. A Digital Deluxe Edition includes customization items and additional equipment, notably a magitek armor appearance for the chocobo. These additions do not change the structure of the main adventure.
The game features Japanese and English voice acting, accompanied by text and subtitles in several languages, including French, Spanish, German, Korean and Chinese. The campaign can be played entirely solo, without cooperative gameplay or multiplayer battles.
