Overview

Presentation

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is an action fighting game developed by Dimps. It builds on the concept of the first Xenoverse by allowing players to create their own fighter and join the Time Patrol.

The story takes place a few years after the first game. A new Time Patroller travels through different periods of Dragon Ball to correct events whose original course has been altered.

Character creation allows players to choose from five groups: Earthling, Saiyan, Namekian, Majin or Frieza Race. Appearance, attributes, equipment, techniques and transformations can then be developed to create a personalized fighter.

Battles take place in large 3D arenas where characters can fight both on the ground and in the air. Physical attacks, throws, rapid movement, Ki attacks, special techniques and ultimate moves can be combined depending on the chosen playstyle.

Progression allows the Time Patroller's attributes to be improved and new skills to be acquired. Learned techniques can then be freely equipped, allowing abilities from many different Dragon Ball characters to be combined.

The mentor system further expands this customization. Conton City includes characters such as Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, Frieza, Cell, Broly, Beerus and Whis, who can train the player and teach some of their techniques. The game features 32 mentors.

Conton City replaces Toki Toki City as the main hub. This new city was announced as being around seven times larger than the hub from the first Xenoverse and provides access to missions, shops, training and multiplayer features.

Parallel Quests offer battles based on alternate scenarios, different objectives and numerous rewards, including techniques, equipment and items.

The game also greatly expands its online features. Players can fight each other directly, take part in different missions together or join forces during Raid Battles against powerful enemies.

Since release, Xenoverse 2 has received numerous updates and expansions adding characters, stories, skills, transformations and content drawn notably from Dragon Ball Super, the movies and Dragon Ball DAIMA.

Conclusion

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 expands the central idea of the first game by giving greater depth to the creation and progression of the Time Patroller.

Time Patrol missions, Parallel Quests and multiplayer activities all extend the same core idea: allowing players to enter the Dragon Ball universe directly with their own character.
