ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE is an aerial combat game developed by Bandai Namco Aces / PROJECT ACES. It returns to the fictional world of Strangereal with a new war set in 2029.

The Central Usean Federation (FCU) suffers a lightning invasion by the Republic of Sotoa. Its capital, Theve, falls and FCU forces are scattered, while the aircraft carrier Endurance becomes one of the remaining bases still capable of continuing the fight.

The player takes the role of Rex, an unknown pilot rescued after the destruction of his aircraft. When Jan Cope, the man presented as the legendary Wings of Theve, is killed, Rex is given his identity in order to preserve the morale of the FCU forces.

He then becomes Joker 1, leader of Joker Flight, alongside Ellington Baxter, Tasha Severskaya and William Coster. Over the course of the campaign, this propaganda-built legend must gradually be turned into genuine achievements.
