After Thanos’ defeat, Adam Warlock seeks to control the Infinity Gems and prevent such power from causing another catastrophe. But by separating certain aspects of his own personality, he unintentionally releases the Magus, his evil counterpart. The Magus prepares an assault on the heroes of the Marvel Universe by creating monstrous doppelgängers capable of replacing or fighting them. As the Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and many other heroes are drawn into the conflict, Warlock must uncover the Magus’ true intentions and prevent the Gems from falling into his hands. The struggle quickly grows into a cosmic war centered on identity, power, and manipulation.
