In the Absolute Universe, Kal-El arrives on Earth after escaping a deeply unequal Krypton exploited by its ruling elite until its destruction. With no adoptive family, no Fortress of Solitude, and no true home, he grows far removed from the traditional image of Superman and discovers a world repeating many of the same systems of domination that shaped his home planet. Opposed by the powerful Lazarus Corporation and its Peacemakers, Kal-El nevertheless chooses to protect exploited communities and stand against those who use power to control others. His journey reinvents Superman as a hero without privilege, guided above all by his rejection of injustice and by the memory of Krypton.
