Alt-J is a British indie rock band formed in Leeds in the late 2000s around Joe Newman, Gus Unger-Hamilton and Thom Sonny Green. The group developed a distinctive sound blending indie rock, art rock, folk, electronic music and rhythmic experimentation, driven by Newman’s unusual vocals and often minimalist, atmospheric arrangements. With albums such as An Awesome Wave, This Is All Yours and Relaxer, alt-J became one of the most distinctive acts in contemporary British alternative music.
