The creature is revealed to be Cell, Dr. Gero's final creation, utilizing the cells of several warriors. Cell comes from a future where Trunks killed the Androids: he killed Trunks and stole his time machine. He wants to absorb #17 and #18 to reach his perfect form. Piccolo temporarily beats him. Goku recovers and takes Vegeta, Gohan, and Trunks to train in the Room of Spirit and Time (1 year of training = 1 day outside). Trunks and Vegeta enter first. Piccolo fights #17. Cell interrupts, absorbs #17, and reaches his semi-perfect form. Cell beats #16, tries to absorb #18, but Tenshinhan intervenes.
