Overview

Presentation

The Crew 2 is an open-world racing and driving game developed by Ivory Tower. It turns a vast representation of the United States into a playground dedicated to motorsports on land, water and in the air.

The player takes the role of a driver seeking to build a reputation within Motornation. Performances in races, challenges and various activities earn followers and gradually unlock new disciplines and vehicles.

Progression is organized around four main families: Street Racing, Offroad, Freestyle and Pro Racing. Each brings together several disciplines with their own types of events and vehicles.

Street Racing notably includes urban racing, drifting, drag racing and Hypercars. Offroad covers different forms of rally and motocross, while Freestyle and Pro Racing extend to monster trucks, aerial aerobatics, racing boats and single-seaters.

One of the game's defining features is Fast Fav, which allows players to quickly switch during exploration between a land vehicle, a boat and a plane. A journey can therefore begin on a road, continue through the air and then move onto the water without returning to a garage.

The open world includes several major cities and regions inspired by the United States. Roads, mountains, deserts, rivers and urban areas can be freely explored between competitions.

Vehicles can be upgraded using performance parts earned after events. Their level affects overall performance and allows players to take on increasingly demanding activities.

The collection includes cars, motorcycles, trucks, boats, seaplanes and aircraft, with visual customization options complementing mechanical upgrades.

The LIVE Summit offers a weekly competition made up of several themed activities. Players accumulate scores to earn a leaderboard position and different rewards.

The Race Creator finally allows players to design their own races directly within the open world by defining routes and checkpoints before sharing their creations with the community.

Conclusion

The Crew 2 greatly expands the concept of the first game by no longer limiting its open world to land vehicles.

Fast Fav turns the United States into a continuous playground where cars, motorcycles, boats and planes can be used almost instantly, while the four families provide structure for the many disciplines available.

Years of updates later expanded this foundation with LIVE Summit, race creation and new customization options, before Hybrid Mode also made it possible to preserve most of the experience without a permanent internet connection.

Good to know

The Crew 2 is developed by Ivory Tower and published by Ubisoft.

The game was released on June 29, 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

The open world includes nine cities and seven major regions, connected within a condensed representation of the United States.

The four main families are Street Racing, Offroad, Freestyle and Pro Racing, each bringing together several specialized disciplines.

During free exploration, Fast Fav allows direct switching between a land vehicle, boat and plane once the corresponding categories have been unlocked.

Up to four players can form a crew to explore and take part in different online activities together.

The LIVE Summit, introduced in 2019, is built around a weekly selection of nine themed activities and a leaderboard offering different rewards.

The Race Creator allows players to build races in the open world and share them with other players.

Since October 16, 2025, Hybrid Mode allows players to choose between the original online experience and a new offline mode.

Online and offline saves remain separate: an online save can be exported to offline mode, but progress made offline cannot be transferred back to online progression.

An April 2026 update notably added the ability to create and save liveries directly in offline mode.

LIVE Summits, multiplayer, leaderboards and certain community features remain exclusive to online mode.

This entry focuses on Motornation, the four families, Fast Fav, vehicle collection, LIVE Summit, Race Creator and Hybrid Mode, without detailing every discipline, vehicle or update.
