Overview

Overview

Developed and published by Thunder Lotus, 33 Immortals is a video game released on June 10, 2026. The platforms listed in this entry are Xbox Series and PC. The associated genres are action, fantasy, RPG, hack-and-slash and indie. The specified game modes are Single player, Multiplayer, Co-operative and Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO), and the engine listed is Unity.

The game takes the form of a cooperative action roguelike capable of bringing together up to 33 players during a single run. Its structure is based on replayable raids designed to let players quickly start a session, face large groups of enemies and then progress toward boss battles.

Access to matches uses instant matchmaking, avoiding the need to manually assemble a complete group before starting. A player can join a match alone or first form a party of up to four friends before being integrated with the remaining participants.

Cooperation does not necessarily rely on voice communication. The game provides emotes, pings and cooperative abilities to signal intentions, draw attention to a situation or coordinate certain actions in the middle of combat.

Players can also revive fallen allies. With several dozen participants present at the same time, survival therefore depends both on individual actions and on the group’s ability to keep enough fighters active during encounters.

Certain abilities are designed to produce combined effects between multiple players. The system therefore encourages participants to bring together their available powers and take advantage of their interactions rather than simply stacking individual attacks.

Runs are built around variable elements. Enemies, encounters, rewards and ability configurations can change from one attempt to another, gradually altering the situations groups must adapt to.

Defeat does not, however, reset all progression. Resources obtained during raids are used to unlock permanent upgrades for the soul, allowing the character to become progressively stronger across attempts.

The arsenal also expands with new weapons, relics and abilities. These elements have their own combat mechanics and make it possible to build different configurations suited to how the player wants to participate in encounters.

Weapons and relics notably use themes linked to sins and virtues, in keeping with the religious and mythological universe on which the game is based.

Progression therefore combines two layers. Within a run, rewards make it possible to build a configuration suited to the current attempt; between runs, permanent upgrades gradually expand the options available for future attempts.

Combat is designed on a large scale. Hordes of monsters can engage several groups of players simultaneously, while boss battles require a large number of participants to coordinate movement, attacks, revives and cooperative abilities.

This structure brings matches closer to condensed raids, but within a roguelike format designed to be replayed regularly rather than relying on lengthy preparation beforehand. Fast matchmaking and the absence of a mandatory lobby directly contribute to this organization.

The art direction retains the hand-drawn approach associated with Thunder Lotus productions. The universe notably draws inspiration from Dante’s Divine Comedy, whose depictions of the afterlife inform the game’s religious and mythological setting.

33 Immortals therefore structures its gameplay around an unusual change of scale for the action roguelike: an attempt no longer concerns only one character or a small group, but a temporary community that can bring together 33 fighters, with systems designed to allow them to coordinate during fast, replayable raids.
