Danielle Wellys, a young woman pursued by the law, comes before Wonder Woman and invokes the Hiketeia, an ancient Greek ritual that binds whoever accepts it to protect the person seeking their help. Diana grants her protection without knowing the full truth about her past. But when Batman arrives to arrest Danielle, Wonder Woman finds herself trapped by her oath and forced to stand against her ally.
