Ornella plunders the graves to survive, selling jewels or corpses to whom he pays. In the old cemetery of Lumet Hill, she finally opens the vault of the dwarf Helmut Gottenheim and puts her hands on a map leading to a cursed place... and a mountain of gold. A glass of too much in the saloon, a few words of error, and here she is taken away. When she wakes up, she is trapped in the home of the governor of Texas, John Williamson. At the same time, the journalist Spencer Cross investigates the disappearance of Senator Winter, is without a past linked to a sect, the Watchers. Invited to Williamson's home to write his biography, Spencer understands too late that he is trapped: the governor mocks the gold, he wants the stick of a forgotten mage... and silence those who know too much for ever.
