Ranma Saotome est un jeune expert en arts martiaux victime d’une étrange malédiction après être tombé dans une source ensorcelée en Chine : au contact de l’eau froide, il se transforme en fille, tandis que l’eau chaude lui rend son apparence masculine. De retour au Japon avec son père, lui-même victime d’une autre malédiction, Ranma découvre qu’il est promis à Akane Tendo afin d’unir leurs deux familles et leurs écoles d’arts martiaux. Entre rivalités, prétendants, duels absurdes et nouvelles malédictions, leur quotidien devient une succession de situations chaotiques où sentiments et combats se mêlent constamment.

Soun has three teenage daughters. As one of his daughters, Akane, is Ranma's age, she is appointed for bridal duty by her sisters. Akane dislikes men. Ranma is only a man half of the time. Therefore, they are perfect together.
