Overview

Presentation

CONTROL Resonant is an Action-RPG adventure developed by Remedy Entertainment and the direct sequel to Control. This time, the player takes the role of Dylan Faden, Jesse Faden's brother and a former test subject of the Federal Bureau of Control.

After several years of confinement, Dylan leaves the Oldest House as a paranatural catastrophe spreads through the streets of Manhattan. The Hiss, the Mold and a new cosmic force are transforming the city and gradually altering the rules of reality.

The adventure takes place across large interconnected areas of Manhattan. Remedy does not present the game as a traditional open world: the focus is instead on exploration, discoveries, side quests and events without artificially filling the map.

The combat system changes significantly compared with the first Control by placing greater emphasis on melee combat. Dylan uses the Aberration, a paranatural weapon capable of instantly changing form.

It can notably become a two-handed hammer, dual blades, a scythe or fists, with each form changing Dylan's range, speed and role during combat.

Melee attacks also restore the power used by his supernatural abilities, creating a system in which aggression, powers and executions continuously feed into one another.

Dylan gradually develops different abilities by defeating major creatures known as Resonants. Defeating these enemies grants new powers and can sometimes involve choosing between several upgrades.

Progression is built around three main elements: Aberration forms, supernatural abilities and talents that strengthen synergies between the different systems.

The Gap serves as the main customization space. Dylan can adjust his equipment, abilities and combat focus there in order to create different builds.

The environment also plays an important role. Certain areas feature gravity anomalies where walls, roads or ceilings become new surfaces that can be traversed.

The Shift ability allows Dylan to adapt to these changes in orientation and explore spaces where the very concept of the ground can be completely altered.

Conclusion

CONTROL Resonant moves the series beyond the limits of the Oldest House and turns Manhattan into an unstable paranatural space.

Dylan has a clearly different style from Jesse: the Aberration and the greater focus on melee combat give encounters a more physical rhythm, while supernatural abilities and multiple specializations allow different approaches to be built.

This evolution is accompanied by a broader scale, with larger areas, more exploration and anomalies capable of directly altering the geometry and gravity of the world.

Good to know

CONTROL Resonant is developed and published by Remedy Entertainment.

The game was released on September 24, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, through Steam and the Epic Games Store.

It is also available through GeForce NOW, while a Mac version is planned for later in 2026.

It is a single-player experience.

The game is built with Remedy's proprietary Northlight engine.

Dylan Faden was already a central character in the first Control, but CONTROL Resonant is his first adventure as the main playable protagonist.

The main campaign is grouped under the Dylan's Journey missions, while World Quests provide self-contained side stories across Manhattan.

Combat notably revolves around status effects, staggering, executions and the combination of melee attacks with powers.

Not every ability and specialization can be unlocked in a single playthrough, encouraging different builds.

The game also includes an Assist Mode that allows several combat and difficulty parameters to be adjusted separately.

It is not necessary to have completed the first Control to understand the adventure, although the story of Dylan, Jesse and the FBC directly continues events from that universe.

This entry focuses on the main campaign, Dylan Faden, Manhattan, the Aberration, paranatural powers, progression and the gravity anomalies of CONTROL Resonant, without revealing the major story developments.
