Noir Désir was a French rock band formed in Bordeaux in the early 1980s around Bertrand Cantat, Serge Teyssot-Gay, Denis Barthe and Frédéric Vidalenc. Their music blended alternative rock, post-punk, blues and punk influences, driven by an intense sound and French-language lyrics that were often poetic, dark and socially conscious. With albums such as Veuillez rendre l’âme (à qui elle appartient), Tostaky and Des visages des figures, Noir Désir became one of the leading bands in French rock before disbanding in 2010.
