Max Romeo was a Jamaican singer and songwriter who became an important figure in 1970s roots reggae. After early work influenced by ska and rocksteady, he developed a more socially and politically conscious style shaped by Rastafarian spirituality and deep reggae rhythms. With songs such as Wet Dream and Chase the Devil, along with the album War Ina Babylon, Max Romeo became one of the distinctive voices of Jamaican reggae.
