In a distant future, Doctor Ido discovers the remains of a young cyborg in a scrapyard, her brain still intact. He rebuilds her and gives her the name Gally, but she has no memory of her past. After discovering that she instinctively possesses highly advanced combat skills, Gally begins a journey to understand who she truly was. In a brutal world dominated by the floating city of Zalem and the slums beneath it, she faces bounty hunters, criminals, and enhanced fighters while trying to define her own identity and place in society.

Volume 1
Ido, a cyberneticist, discovers the bust of a cyborg in a junkyard, which he names Gally. Even after her repair, she remains amnesiac. A first fight reveals her warrior aptitudes and the power of her Panzer Kunst, an ancient Martian combat technique. She then decides to become a Hunter Warrior to recover her memory and past through combat.
Volume 2
Gally is an android found in the Decharge, this ocean of garbage spilled by Zalem, the suspended city. Ido, a bio-mechanic of genius, builds him a new body, but nothing will prevent Gally from revealing his true nature: a warrior obsessed with victory, whose "Panzer Kust", a formidable combat technique, is the only legacy of a dark past... Gunnm is undoubtedly one of the most incredible comic strips today. All the characters of this saga are an assembly of mechanical organs and parts, succeeding in the perfect fusion between man and robot. Who, from the machine driven by a human brain or from the biological body trouffed with electronic chips is most alive? What makes one human or not? Through the search for identity of Gally la Cyborg, Yukito Kishiro tries to answer this question and mixes action, philosophy and imagination: the three engines of science fiction.
Volume 3
After Yugo's death, Gally disappeared. Ido, his creator, determined to find him, sets out to search for him. By investigating the lower districts, he finally finds a lead that leads him to an arena where an assassin sport is practiced, a kind of hyper-destructive roller-ball. Skeptical, he has trouble imagining that Gally could live in such a universe. Yet, it seems life has decided otherwise...
Volume 4
Gally has become the queen of Motor-Ball. The undisputed star of ultra-violence, she earns her living by massacring her opponents. Ido, her creator, has great difficulty accepting this reality. He never thought that one day Gally could lose all human feelings...
Volume 5
After Motor-Ball, Gally becomes interested in music. But the world she lives in is always crueler, and she pays the price for this escalation of violence... This series establishes itself as a classic among manga enthusiasts, owing to Kishiro's immense talent.
Volume 6
Gally's body is repaired by Zalem, in exchange for which it is part of the Tuned network led by Chief Bigott and responsible for carrying out various ground missions on Zalem's behalf.
Volume 7
Fogia has now returned to Alhambra, her native village. Gally is still determined to find Ido, and to do so, she must find Desty Nova. Gally is now assisted by Lou Collins, a Zalem resident.
Volume 8
A super nana robot and... Whump! Kakawang! Kresh! We crash, we tear each other apart, we slaughter merrily. Violence abuse.
Volume 9
With a tremendous effort of will, Gally managed to free herself from the bond that attached him to Zalem. Free for the first time in her life, she faced Desty Nova without any other objective than to satisfy a personal vengeance. But, in the face of death, the mad scientist plays his last card and tries to exchange his life for Zalem's secret. "You own the body of a machine powered by a human brain. I have a human body animated by the brain of a machine..." he announces to him. Which of the two is, strictly speaking, alive? It is for the knowledge that Gally will throw himself body and soul into his last fight...
