The foundation of Carthage is attributed to Elissa, daughter of the king of Tyre. According to legend, it called the city "Qart Hadasht", which meant "new city" in Phoenician. It was in 814 BC. Thus the history of this mythical city began, repeatedly conquered, destroyed and rebuilt. It is said of the inhabitants of this merchant port that they were very religious. It is even believed that they worshipped the terrible god Moloch and that in case of serious threat, the Carthaginians immolated their children... Also inscribed in history as the object of three Punic wars, the city was finally crushed by the Romans in 146 BC and conquered by the Vandals and then the Byzantines.
